Chianti is a great choice for a mid-week glass of wine. It tends to be a medium bodied and easy going red that suits any season and it is versatile enough to go with a wide range of flavours. Yes, tomato-based pasta with nutty parmesan sprinkled atop is great but also for something like a richly, spice rubbed swordfish.
This Riserva has had six months in large format oak barrels giving the cherry, raspberry and thyme nuances some subtle spice aromas that become more dusty and earthy in the mouth. It also has given the wine a smooth suppleness, making it more slinky across your mouth. It is one of those wines that if you had a glass tonight, it would be even better tomorrow night with some breathing.
