Zinfandel, or primitivo as it is known in Italy, is a red grape that is capable of producing fine, bold, high alcohol, reds. It is also used to make ‘white zinfandel’ wines that have a tendency to be sweet, low alcohol, brightly coloured pinks that are very popular in the USA. This Aldi version, has plenty of up front melon and nectarine fruit on show and has a whack of sugar left in the wine to balance it out. I think that at a BBQ on a hot day, this might work particularly if you were eating it with fruit tartlets or a cheesecake topped with strawberry puree.
