Vouvray has made an artform of making fine Chenin Blanc in all its forms. The ‘Medium dry’ on the label means there is some perceptible residual sugar on the palate but in this particular wine is not as seamless as it could be. It is not a wine that I could drink more than a glass of and needs food to look its best. Typical of the variety, there is plenty of ripe apple and lemon/lime fruit blends with spiced white floral notes to be found here.
That residual sugar fleshes out this full bodied white, and the balancing acid keeps the wine crisp in the mouth. The honey and citrus flavours finish on a more savoury note. This is a wine to drink with grilled chicken salad, warm goats cheese soufflé or Thai appetisers.
